Millions of people watched Taylor Swift win one of the first awards of the night. The category: Best Female Video.
Swift was a rookie up against some major music headliners such as Beyonce Knowles, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, and Lady Gaga.
Although it was a surprise to all when Swift was announced the winner for her cute adolescent lyrics compared to the choreography of Beyonce, the individuality of Lady Gaga, Pink's typical personality, and Kelly Clarkson's jumpy beats, everyone accepted defeat and congratulated her.
Well, everyone except Kanye West. West has been known to denounce other rappers and legends of Hip Hop, but this time he has gone too far.
The clip pretty much explains for itself, but here is the low down. Taylor Swift get's on stage completely baffled at the whole ordeal, and doesn't even get to finish her acceptance speech before she is rudely interrupted by Kanye West. Not to mention the fact that 5 minutes later, Taylor was due to perform. Imagine how that would feel, 19 years old it's the first VMA ever received, and someone ruins it.
It's horrible, and completely out of line.
Needless to say, Kanye believed that Beyonce should have won the award and it ruined Swift's time in the limelight. However, later on in the evening one of the very last awards happened to be Video of the Year. Beyonce had come out a success and topped out with a win.
Did Beyonce rattle off a mundane acceptance speech? No. Beyonce did something that was so noble and mature it made millions fall in love with her as a person, not just a musician.
In closing, although Kanye West tried to ruin her moment, Taylor Swift was given the credit and the publicity that was well-deserved. This is especially so after saving face in front of a star's worst nightmare: total embarrassment and humiliation.
