What Exactly is Life About?
Throughout my time here on earth, I can say my views have changed on what I feel life is really about.
When I was little, life was about cartoons and grilled cheese sandwiches. It was about my friends: play dates, finger painting, and drawing pictures in shaving cream at the kitchen table.
As I got a little older, life was about playing cops and robbers and “Wrestlemania” with my two older brothers (which is where I got my amazing fighting skills). I had fun times with my family, and that was all I really needed.
When I became a tween (pre-teen) and growing into my teenage years my life was nothing but sports. I was in school all day and played sports all night. My sports ranged from playing two-hand touch football with my brothers and dodgeball at the park to playing basketball and softball for the school and during the summer.
I was literally a sports fanatic, I was obsessed with being the best that I could be at whatever I wanted to do. Since I was a very dedicated softball pitcher, I pitched at least 100 pitches everyday rain or shine, sick or healthy. I grew up playing in all types of softball tournaments, and there was one particular weekend that I woke up (after a sleepover with a few friends) and was completely sick. I had a 102.8 fever and we were playing in the first game of the tournament.
I would go out on the mound pitch strike after strike after strike, three outs. In between innings I would lay down on the bench wrapped up in blankets then get up and do it all over again. After that game I went to the doctor, got meds, and went back to finish out the tournament. I fought through everything between injuries and sicknesses.
It had gotten to the point where when I was in elementary school, I was training with the girls High School varsity basketball squad. I didn’t need anything else, I had sports. That was what my life was about.
Now, as I sit here, 21 years old, retired from sports besides a few basketball games with friends and family, I am changing. I am stuck in the middle, and I am trying to figure out what exactly is my life about?
Since I am constantly busy it has been increasingly difficult to figure myself out. I am a full-time student and with everyday I am not at school, I spend it at work. So the question remains, what IS life about?
Is it about the fads that keep us all in touch like Facebook, Myspace, or Twitter? Is it about going out to the bars and getting drunk every chance you get?
I don’t think so. I think it’s about finding that completes you. It doesn’t matter if this person is just a friend or a relative or even a soul mate. It’s about the friends that have been through Hell and back with you and haven’t even thought about leaving your side. Most of all, life is about the family. At the end of the day, people will have come and gone throughout one’s life and when they get home there is always someone there to greet them with a warm heart. A person’s family is byfar the most important aspect of a persons life. They love you for who you are, not who they expect you to be. They don’t pretend your someone that your not, and will accept you no matter what.
Maybe that’s what life should be about. Good friends. Good family. Screw the rest.
It sounds good to me at least.

Gay Marriage....I get worked up over this.
It’s not Adam and Steve, it’s Adam and Eve” has been a statement that has been made on several occasions by people when asked their opinion of same sex marriages.
As someone who has read the Bible and is religious in every aspect of the word, I do not remember the Bible stating that we should discriminate and distribute hate on others just because they are in love.
The Bible I remember reading says that we should “love thy neighbor as you love thyself.” I also don’t remember the Bible saying that Adam and Steve is not an option. Yes, God says that marriage is sacred between a man and a woman, but He never rules out same sex relationships.
I am by no means putting down my religious belief, I do believe however, that if God didn’t want us to be a certain way, he would have created us differently.
Why is same sex marriage such a big deal? As the United States of America, we to separate church and state. However, we as Americans are willing to make same sex marriages illegal because of the religious aspect of it, yet we are more than willing to marry a man and a woman.
It’s a fault, and what I see as being a blemish on our country that shows how descriminatory we really are. All because of people that are afraid (Yes, AFRAID) of what they don’t understand.
If something scares us, we ban it, we block it out like it doesn’t exist. The people that are affected, they are people too.
Bottom line is this, people search their entire lives for their soulmates, some get lucky and some never find that special someone. For those that are lucky, why would we ruin the rest of their lives just because they want the normal life? We keep them from getting married and growing old with the person they love the most, only because we think that it’s disgusting, repulsive, or abnormal? My question is who is the abnormal one in this situation? The couple that are so deeply in love with each other that they want to get married, or the paranoid people on the sidelines with their typical lives trying their hardest to ruin these peoples lives because they are afraid of what is going to happen if they allow someone to be happy? You decide.

BREAKING NEWS: PATRICK SWAYZE DIES AFTER TWO YEAR STRUGGLE WITH CANCER
Patrick Swayze, star of Ghost, Dirty Dancing, and Road House died on Monday after a two year struggle with pancreatic cancer.
Although he was receiving treatment, he was still working on the side. His latest work was an A&E drama series called "The Beast," but was not his claim to fame and wasn't what made him a screen favorite.
His bad boy charm in Dirty Dancing was what really kicked off his career, and he sealed the deal with his compassionate, loving character as Sam Wheat in Ghost with co-stars Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg.
For myself, I have watched Ghost and Dirty Dancing several times in my life despite not being mature enough to understand its meanings.
I wasn't even alive when Dirty Dancing hit the screens and was only two years old when Ghost came out, yet I know that I along with millions of others love his work.
So we say farewell to a handsome, intelligent, and very talented actor that everyone will always remember.

Rest in Peace.

MTV Video Music Awards: Kanye West Seriously Out of Line.
Millions of people watched Taylor Swift win one of the first awards of the night. The category: Best Female Video.
Swift was a rookie up against some major music headliners such as Beyonce Knowles, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, and Lady Gaga.
Although it was a surprise to all when Swift was announced the winner for her cute adolescent lyrics compared to the choreography of Beyonce, the individuality of Lady Gaga, Pink's typical personality, and Kelly Clarkson's jumpy beats, everyone accepted defeat and congratulated her.
Well, everyone except Kanye West. West has been known to denounce other rappers and legends of Hip Hop, but this time he has gone too far.
The clip pretty much explains for itself, but here is the low down. Taylor Swift get's on stage completely baffled at the whole ordeal, and doesn't even get to finish her acceptance speech before she is rudely interrupted by Kanye West. Not to mention the fact that 5 minutes later, Taylor was due to perform. Imagine how that would feel, 19 years old it's the first VMA ever received, and someone ruins it.
It's horrible, and completely out of line.
Needless to say, Kanye believed that Beyonce should have won the award and it ruined Swift's time in the limelight. However, later on in the evening one of the very last awards happened to be Video of the Year. Beyonce had come out a success and topped out with a win.
Did Beyonce rattle off a mundane acceptance speech? No. Beyonce did something that was so noble and mature it made millions fall in love with her as a person, not just a musician.
In closing, although Kanye West tried to ruin her moment, Taylor Swift was given the credit and the publicity that was well-deserved. This is especially so after saving face in front of a star's worst nightmare: total embarrassment and humiliation.

Obama's Speech Makes Scary Figures Known
I want to start off my blog with a huge issue in today's day and age: Healthcare concerns.
Last Saturday, President Obama spoke to the public about his new "healthcare reform plan." He had also given out some frightening numbers about how many Americans do not have healthcare. The President had said that nearly 50% of people under the age of 65 have gone at least one month or more without healthcare.
I would like to take a few moments to talk about this percentage and these numbers.
First of all, this number includes people that choose not to have health insurance. Prime example, my fiance does not have health insurance through his line of work. He chooses to not pay for it separately because of how expensive it is. However, he rarely gets sick and never sees the need to go to the doctor. If he does get sick, he bundles up in several layers and blankets and "sweats it out."
While that method works for him, it does not for me. I was born with several issues dealing with my kidneys, and had surgery when I was a year old. That surgery had compromised my immune system indefinitely. A cold to one person can ultimately mean pnuemonia to me. I have had several sicknesses that have stumped the best doctor's, and could have easily killed other children.
I need the health care. I am still a dependent on my parent's plan, but have the option of healthcare through my job. I am one of the few lucky ones that has this opportunity.
Let's get down to the nitty gritty here:
Do I think everyone needs healthcare?
Plainly put, yes. I think healthcare for everyone is a must-have. Everyone gets sick every once in awhile. Not even that, there are tests now that we need to utilize in order to keep us healthy.
We need to be screened for things like STD's, cancer, and glaucoma...and that's not even including the specialty exams for the different sexes.
Obama's plan.
I'm not sure if Obama's plan is going to work. If we are going to have to pay more taxes in order to pay for everyone and their left knee to have healthcare, this is going to bring even more pressure into the recession we are already in.
Usually the economy can bounce back from a recession without any major changes. However, let's take a step back to high school for basic economics class.
If we are spending more money than we are producing, are we gaining more money or losing more money?
We're losing all of our money. The United States is in so much debt because we are spending so much money on all of the wrong reasons.
What is Vice President Joe Biden's excuse?
We are spending money to save money.
I'm doing a serious double-take right now. Oxymoron much? We are spending more money in order to save more money.
Where is our money getting spent? Because no one has seen the fruits of our labor in the economy. Nothing seems to be getting better, and yet American's are being asked to shell out more cash for things half of us probably don't understand.
This almost sounds like a bad joke.
How are we supposed to figure this out, with someone who is giving us false hope of a better tomorrow?
In my personal opinion, I feel like we are hamsters running on a wheel. I feel like we are starving and the only thing on the menu is crap.
We need to figure out a system that will work. One that everyone understands and that is good for this country.
Instead of shoving shady statistics in our face, give us the facts. Instead of telling us your childhood stories about being the typical problem child turned born again good boy, give us something real to chew on.
America does need help, but I feel like we aren't getting what we need as a country. This could pose a problem in the future, but I guess we will have to see.
Anyway, my laptop needs to be charged so another blog to come.

The reason....
Before I get into tearing apart the news, I want to mention a little bit about why I have the blog and what I hope it will do.
First of all, it's for class. Not class like being classy, but for school. I have never really been in to blogging, and I get questioned for it. I don't mind writing (or in this case typing), but I haven't really expected anyone to sit back and read my mindless babble on-line. I figured, if anyone was in fact reading my mindless babble, they must be really, really, really bored.
Anyway, since part of the course requirements for my class this semester is to participate in our own, or nationally recognized blog, I opted for my own blog and will probably check up on some of the others too throughout the semester.
What will happen after this semester you ask?
Who knows? Will I keep up with it? Possibly.
Either way I am taking this blog very seriously, and will be discussing a lot of news-related issues that are hitting the media and hitting it hard.
Other then that, I may give a few updates here and there about certain topics that may or may not be newsworthy.
Anyway, to keep this brief my next blog will probably be coming within the next week or so.
Make sure to keep your eyes peeled!
Yours,
Kristin
